English ivy removal & invasive vine clearing

Save your trees.
Get the ivy off.

English ivy looks harmless. It isn't. The vine climbs the trunk, smothers the canopy, adds weight to limbs and competes for water. We cut it, separate the roots and clear it at the soil line so it can't come back.

Why English ivy is a problem

English ivy is an invasive species. On a tree it's a slow strangle. On a house it's a slow pry bar. It can overtake mature oaks, maples, pines and landscape trees alike.

  • It blocks sunlight. Ivy climbs the trunk and into the canopy, covering the leaves the tree needs to feed itself.
  • It adds weight. Heavy vine growth loads limbs that were never meant to carry it. In wind and ice, those limbs fail.
  • It competes for water and nutrients. The tree weakens over time. You usually see it as dieback at the top first.
  • It damages what it climbs. Fences, walls, siding. Ivy works into mortar joints and behind siding, and it hides whatever is rotting underneath.
  • Cutting it isn't removing it. Cut vines on a trunk will die back, but the roots at the base send it straight back up unless they come out too.

How Ron's removes ivy

Cutting the vine and pulling it off is half the job. The other half is the roots at the base, which is where most ivy comes back from. We also clear larger areas and woodland edges where ivy has taken over the ground.

1

Inspect the tree and the coverage

How high it's climbed, how thick the mat is, and what's underneath it.

2

Cut and remove from trunks, ground and structures

Vines removed cleanly from the tree, and from fences, walls and property features, without harming the bark.

3

Separate the roots at the source

Root systems cut and removed at the base so the ivy can't re-establish. Ground ivy cleared at the soil line.

4

Clean up and keep it gone

Debris cleaned up around the tree base. If you want it, a follow-up plan to catch regrowth early.
